Supporting Healthy Senior Lifestyles—One Garden At A Time
At The Neighbors of Dunn County, we believe a healthy lifestyle is about more than checkups and medications. It’s about living each day with purpose, connection, and comfort. For the seniors who call our community home, wellness is woven into daily life—from enjoying familiar routines to engaging with the sights, sounds, and smells of the changing seasons.
Promoting Whole-Person Wellness
Health in older adulthood isn’t just physical—it’s emotional, social, and even environmental. A walk outside, a visit with family, or a sunny morning spent near a flowerbed can be just as impactful as a fitness class or balanced meal. That’s why we take a holistic, person-centered approach to care, where individual preferences, rhythms, and routines help shape each resident’s experience.
This approach is reflected in everything from how meals are served to how households are designed. And when it comes to lifestyle, our residents have the opportunity to enjoy fresh air, natural surroundings, and a setting that feels like home—right down to the gardens out front.
Where Wellness Takes Root
Every spring and summer, the gardens in front of our households become small sanctuaries—bright spots where flowers grow, birds flutter, and neighbors stop to chat. While they add visual beauty, they also contribute to a calming, familiar environment for the residents inside.
To help these gardens thrive, we invite individuals or community groups to Adopt a Garden during the growing season. It’s a simple way to help nurture the environment our residents enjoy every day. This year, three gardens are available for adoption:
- Deerview
- Red Cedar
- Eastbrook
Volunteers are welcome to help with planting, watering, and light maintenance throughout the season. It’s a small commitment that can have a meaningful impact on someone’s daily life.
Healthy Aging Starts With Community
A vibrant, engaged community plays an essential role in supporting healthy aging. When local individuals, schools, service groups, and families get involved—whether through volunteering, visiting, or adopting a garden—it reinforces a core belief we hold dear: that aging is not a decline, but a continued journey of connection and dignity.
If you or your organization would like to learn more about our Adopt a Garden initiative or other ways to support our mission, please reach out to Alyssa Stelter at: astelter@dunncountywi.gov for details.
Together, we can continue to make The Neighbors of Dunn County a place where health and happiness grow side by side.
